Bernard has been cleaning our various chimneys (house built in 1740 and has 4 wood burning FPs) for decades, even before he started his own business. He is extremely efficient, very clean-conscious, reasonably priced, polite and charming. Highly recommend! If you are on FB for the surrounding towns, you will see Bernard the Honest Village Weep is recommended the most!

Bernard came to our house and saved us $3,000.00. He inspected our chimney and determined we didn’t need a new liner. Where another company came in and wanted to charge us $3000.00 for a new liner. Bernard could have came and lied like the other company and he could have charged half that price and we would have never known the difference. Does a thorough cleaning and inspection.

I recently bought a house and asked that Bernard come clean the chimney and asked how everything worked since we have never had a fireplace before. Honest in the business name should be capitalized!! He took the time and explained how everything worked and let my wife know that everything was already clean and working correctly so he didn't have to do anything. I can't recommend him enough! I will be calling him in the future and recommending him to friends.

PSE&G Repaired our gas hot water heater over the weekend, after the repair they found out our chimney was not drafting correctly. We were told the chimney must be blocked, and needed to be checked and cleaned right away. Bernards Honest Sweep LLC WAS SUGGESTED, I gave them a call after reading all of their Reviews, was pleasantly surprised after speaking with Bernard over the phone, that this should be a good experience. (Which it turned out to be). He is a very pleasant and knowledgeable man. Told him our problem, discussed our options, and set up an appointment for the service. Bernard showed up for the appointment (Early) just like the Reviews said, he introduced himself, and It felt I had known him for years. Before starting the job he schooled me on what was going to take place. He found a nest blocking the chimney, and removed it, he did did a great job, and finished with a nice clean up!!!! Bernard was really amazing; we were worried that a blocked chimney was causing our boiler's safety valve to trigger and turn off. He squeezed us in the following day, was super nice, and gave us lots of peace of mind about the state of our chimney (which it turns out didn't need cleaning and probably never will.) He didn't even want to charge us for coming out! Honest, kind experts are rare and wonderful, so while I apparently won't get to hire Bernard again since I don't have a chimney that needs to be cleaned, I highly recommend him to anyone who needs a chimney cleaning!

I got his name recommended to me by a retired plumber who used Bernard for his jobs (not everyone wants to get up on a ladder!).
I just had new furnace put in, they exhaust directly out, no longer up the chimney, so my HVAC guy told me I should put a liner in for my hot water heater exhaust, to eliminate moisture in my chimney (which can really cause expensive chimney and brick repairs).
I told Bernard over the phone what I wanted, he questioned me on a couple things, he gave me a quote and I hired him for the job!
He provided me with a few dates, I selected a Saturday am, and he said he would be here between 8:30-9am, he arrived at 8:25.
He walked me through what he was going to do, had all the parts out for me to see and outline how each provided me with my protection. It was a very tight space to run the new exhaust, he handled it with no problem.
I highly recommend Bernard!

Cannot say enough about Bernard. Seems like today it is more difficult to find a honest service provider than ever before. Bernard was wonderful. My call was quickly returned, costs were clearly explained, service was done quickly, professionally and done very neat and clean. So refreshing to find an old school honest small business.

I got Bernard's name from a contractor that I've worked with repeatedly and trust, after finding out that the chimney service I'd used for years had been taken over by another owner. Bernard came to the house and looked at our two chimneys, and told us honestly that we really did not need a cleaning yet. When I asked him what I owe him for the inspection, he said "nothing; I don't charge if there isn't any work to be done." WOW. He was the nicest person - very friendly and warm, as well. Highly recommend! He told us we probably didn't need a cleaning for another year or two based on how often we told him that we use our fireplaces. Difficult enough these days to find service people who are THAT honest, but truthfully, I was stunned that he wouldn't let me pay him just for coming by. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

I called Bernard's Honest Sweep late after noon of Dec 19, after my Mother-In-Law had a issue with the heat in her house. PSE&G had come out to fix her heat and shut off her furnace due to carbon monoxide. They said she needed to have her Chimney cleaned then they would come back to turn the furnace on. Not knowing what to do, I did a google search, read the positive reviews for "Bernard's Chimney Sweep" and called. A very friendly woman answered, I explained the situation and she immediately put Bernard on the phone. I provided my mother-in-laws information and Bernard went right over to the house. (and this was on one of the coldest days of the year so far) He not only cleaned out the chimney, he gave us detailed information about the state/condition of the chimney AND turned the furnace back on. (God only knows how long it would have taken PSE&G to come back to the house, so it was nice he had done this)
My mother-in-law and husband both texted me and said...… "Bernard is a keeper". We will be reaching out to him again in the future.

Bernard came to clean out our chimney and look at cleaning our furnace. Before he came he said he would first need to see himself what parts of what we requested needed to be done and to see if anything was unnecessary. Sure enough Bernard determined certain things did not need cleaning and that they were already in good shape. He could of charged just for investigating(the things he later determined were unnecessary to be cleaned) or performing those unnecessary procedures as some might have done but he did not. He worked tirelessly to complete the job and finished faster than I expected. At the end when I asked when he determined the next cleaning might need to occur, he did not state the usual every 1 or 2 years as some other contractors told us. He said your chimney won't need cleaning for another 4 to 5 years! Fast forward a year later and our chimney is still working well and our house seems warmer in the winter thanks to a more cleaner, more efficient chimney and furnace cleaning. Bernard does not only chimneys but furnace cleaning relating to our chimney which is a plus. His prices were lower than others we asked and yet he was the utmost professional, in every way from from beginning to end. I highly recommend Bernard to anyone.

Very pleasant experience with Bernard's Honest Sweet. They live up to their name. Bernard said my chimney didn't need a cleaning when he came for a maintenance check and he wouldn't charge me the full price since it was in good shape. He could have told me anything but he was honest. He also gave great tips to start and build a fire.

I should have posted this sooner but sometimes life gets in the way. Called Bernard to clean a chimney that I have never used since a purchased my home. Bernard showed up early he was courteous and came ready with booties and floor coverings.

Looked at my chimney and flat out told me that I didn't need a sweep that it was clean. Told me to call him in two years and he'd be happy to clean it. He then took the time to explain how my chimney functions, what kind of flute I had and the best wood choice and the best way to light it.

We recently purchased a new home and we had a Level 2 inspection done on our fireplace chimney and our heating chimney. The inspector told us that, essentially, we needed to do a bunch of work including replacing liners in both chimneys. We called Bernard who was very gracious and accommodating from the start. Bernard came over on a Saturday morning (everyone else we had called could not give us an exact time as to when they would be able to come over and they could not come over on weekends). He inspected both chimneys and told us there was nothing wring with either of them and that, as much as he would like our business he could not in good conscience advise that anything was wrong and that we should spend the money on our children. We were overwhelmed by his honesty. Although we were not able to give him business, we would like to ensure that others are aware that there are still honest businessman in this world and they should call Bernard for their chimney needs!!

After having one of those coupon offering large companies come in and try to upsell us on a "much needed" wet wash of our flu for $350 ( I can do it for you today for $300) we contacted a friend who has their fireplace going all winter and asked who they use, without hesitation they recommended Bernard.
What a refreshing difference! Bernard arrived just as agreed, took great care in protecting the house from what is at best a very messy job and proceeded to brush clean the flu. Upon completion explained that there was a substantial amount of build up not uncommon given the frequency we use the fireplace, but it was soot not the dangerous creosote!
Bernard is a gentleman and obviously in this for the long run by building a reputation for honesty and integrity in a business that could take advantage of one's fears. I will use his services again and would highly recommend him to friends.

I really enjoyed working with Bernard. I had him inspect our chimney as we never used it since moving in and were concerned since the house is over 100 years old. He was extremely flexible and came the next business today. Inspection went well, and appreciated that he explained what he was looking in detail and overall condition of the chimney. He actually remembered doing work on it years ago too. I didn't feel like he tried to up-sell me in any way, rather just provided his expert opinion, which was that no additional work is needed. His reasonable inspection fee was well worth the peace of mind that we know it's safe to use the fireplace.
